WINE OF THE MONTH
All the wines I feature on this page are either from my personal collection, or something interesting I’ve come across on my travels. These are not paid endorsements in any way.
Wine Name: The Drift Estate Moveable Feast (2017, Overberg Highlands, SA)
Wine Profile: Low intervention, eclectic red blend from one of the Cape’s most accomplished yet humble winemakers; Bruce Jack. Full bodied and spicy yet silky and energetic. One of those “Sh*t that’s good!” wines.

The Drift Estate Moveable Feast
2017 | Overberg Highlands | SA
The Drift Farm sits halfway up a mountain in an area known as The Overberg Highlands. Wild, remote and exposed to the elements, yields are uneconomically low but the grapes are super-charged with flavour.
Bruce is an early pioneer of ‘natural’ winemaking, before it was even a thing, and he allows his wines to ferment ‘wild’ with their own native yeasts and bottles without filtration or fining. Only 650 cases made every year so tiny! No need to rush to drink it, enjoy over the next 5 years.

Food Pairings
This red wine is the perfect accompaniment to:

Braised venison
Venison benefits from long, slow cooking, and this Scottish dish develops a beautifully earthy sweetness – try it as an alternative to turkey.

Fricassée of wild mushrooms
It has all the earthy flavours of the forest and lots of juice just waiting to be mopped up with a piece of crusty French bread.

Steak with Cajun potatoes
Steak and Cajun potatoes make a tasty meal for two – perfect for special occasions such as Valentine’s Day.
